"What is freegan?" you ask? Well, it's a number of things. But it all comes down to one goal: conserving resources by limiting conventional participation in the modern economy. Freegans, as the name would imply, live off of the free "leftovers" from society. While some would consider us freeloaders and parasites to society, I prefer to think of us as something like a catalytic converter on a car. The waste is already there - we're just making as much use of it as we can. If a bagel shop is throwing out four dozen bagels at the end of the night, why shouldn't they be salvaged and redistributed to folks who are hungry? Sure, the company has lost money - but they've planned for that loss, and they're not losing any more money because of our actions. That extra bag of throwaway bagels may provide breakfast for 24-48 people the next morning (WHY are there still hungry people in the world???) Anyway, here's a few useful links for the newcomers. If you have any good ones to share, post them below! zinelibrary.info/why-freegan - The first 8 pages of the original zine "Why Freegan". Hoping to find a better link - if you know of one, please share. freegan.info/what-is-a-freegan/freegan-philosophy/ - Copies a lot of information right from the manifesto (See above), but a good resource. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeganism - Wikipedia's take on Freegan

I agree 100%!
I think it's about making the most of the excess, and reducing the amount of shit that people just plain toss out.. I know a few people who are more along the Vegan side, but I think that's being picky sometimes... I'd rather be like the native americans and not waste the animal, rather than let it go to waste. its not like youre really supporting the companies anyway, they've already lost the money
